A Quiet Lagoon, an Open Sea: A Family Stay at Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay

Hello from Fiji,

Recently, we stayed at Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay, combining a family break with a little work for the magazine.

I had visited for a meal before, but this was my first overnight stay. As a relatively new resort, it was somewhere I had been curious to experience a little more slowly.

I had hoped to stay in one of the overwater bures. That was not an option for us on this visit with young children, so it remains something to look forward to another time.

A lagoon as calm as a pool

What surprised me most was the stillness of the lagoon at the heart of the resort.

Surrounded by villas, guest rooms, and overwater bures, the water had barely a wave while we were there. Playing in it felt almost like being in a very large swimming pool.

Our children, who do not usually spend much time playing in rougher seas, happily stayed in the water here.

We visited in September, when there was still a little coolness in the air. The pool felt rather chilly, but the sea was comfortable for us that day, and we enjoyed taking our time in the lagoon together.

That gentleness seemed to extend throughout the resort. The staff were warm and unhurried, and I gradually felt myself settling into the same easy rhythm.

Another sea beyond the lagoon

After plenty of time in the water, we went for a walk around the grounds—and found a completely different view.

Beyond the sheltered lagoon lay the broad, open waters of Momi Bay.

The contrast stayed with me. A short walk took us from a quiet waterfront to a sea that felt wonderfully expansive.

The adults-only pool on the Momi Bay side also looked beautiful, with views out over the water. It seemed like a lovely place for a quieter moment, different from the time we had spent playing together as a family.

A meal beside the sea at Fish Bar

We ate at Fish Bar, beside the adults-only pool.

The food was delicious, the service was thoughtful, and the setting overlooking the sea made the meal feel special. Taking our time at the table, with that view before us, became one of the simple pleasures of our stay.

A peaceful lagoon, an open sea beyond it, and people who made us feel welcome.

Our Momi Bay visit gave the children plenty of time to play—and gave me a little room to pause, too.

You can find more from our stay, along with photographs, in the newly released Bula Fiji Magazine Vol.06. I hope you will enjoy turning its pages and spending a little island time with us.
