World-Class Paddlers Gather in Fiji: Experiencing Wai Tui International
There was a different kind of energy in the air along Fiji’s coastline.
Wai Tui International, which began on April 3, has brought together top-level paddlers from around the world.
It’s an international event where athletes compete on Fiji’s ocean, turning the usually calm waters into a dynamic racecourse.

I visited the event in person to experience the atmosphere firsthand.
The event is held at Wailoaloa Beach, near Nadi.
On most days, this beach is a relaxed space where tourists and locals quietly enjoy their time— some sitting by the ocean, others walking along the shoreline.
It’s typically a place where time feels slow and unhurried.

But during the event, the atmosphere shifts completely.
Paddlers from different countries gather, and the beach fills with energy. You see athletes preparing their boards, chatting with teammates, or quietly focusing on the water ahead.
People from different cultures, all brought together by the same ocean— that alone makes the event feel special.

Once the race begins, the entire beach comes alive.
Cheers rise from the crowd as spectators follow the action across the water. At the start, paddlers launch forward together, cutting through the surface with speed and precision.
Even from a distance, you can feel the intensity and strength behind each movement.
For a moment, the usually peaceful beach transforms into a competitive arena.

Next to The Beach Club Restaurant, a local market is also set up during the event. Visitors can browse handmade Fijian food, local items, and Wai Tui original merchandise.
It’s not just about watching the race— exploring the market is part of the experience as well.
Held annually during the Easter period, Wai Tui International runs from April 3 to April 6 in 2026.
The event continues to bring energy and excitement to Wailoaloa Beach, offering a different side of Fiji beyond its well-known resorts.
Moments like these—where local atmosphere meets an international event— reveal another layer of what makes Fiji unique.
